Udinese – Lazio: preview

vs.

Venue: Stadio Friuli, Udinese.

Date and time:  8 May 2011; 15;00 CET

The time for every calculation is over. We take on Udinese this Sunday in what seems to be one hell of a match. The teams that comes victorious from this encounter will most probably be the one taking the CL spot for next season. In the case of a draw, much will depend from the match between the other team from Rome and Ac MIlan, who luckily play a night before.

Udinese has been nothing short of tremendous this season after a totally crappy start to the season. They, just like us, have a negative 2 weeks and come from head-t0-head defeats.

Regarding the formation, Lazio will miss two central pieces like Ledesma and Mauri, both suspended for picking red cards in recent matches. This leaves us quite thin in the middle and Matuzalem and Brocchi will take over as a central midfielders. Gonzales is expected to play on the right and perhaps Sculli/Floccari on the left. Hernanes is supposed to play just behind lone striker Zarate. So, we can expect a formation like this:

Muslera: Lichsteiner, Biava, Dias, Garrido; Gonzales, Brocchi, Matuzalem, Sculli/Floccari; Hernanes and Zarate.

Can`t underline how huge would be to win this one. Udinese is expected to play in front of a full home crowd so it is important to maintain calm.

Daje ragazzi.

We have to win this one.

We should never be in this position to begin with. Edy Reja’s negative football mentality has burdened us with crucial games the last 3 weeks and counting….

Far too many games were lost against significantly weaker opposition. Do we remember the Cesena and Bologna games? Reja’s famous early eason turnover philosphy?? Benching Zarate in the first half of the season and when playing him doing so out of position?

How about loosing control of his own temper and that of his players in the derbies or aginst Napoli? This is one item I simply cannnot overlook. I have no problem losing to a better side but not when we lose games due to poor preparation, lack of a coach’s steadying influence and poor substitution/tactical selections.

I hope Reja gets it straight for the balance of the season. We have suffered unnecessarily and now is the time to reward the team and its fans with the true Lazio spirit.

    Forza Lazio, Non Mollare Mai!!

@ Humbird: Now that roma drew at home vs Milan, even a draw at Udine won`t be considered a negative result.

@Anthony – Edy Reja has done nothing short of a remarkable job with this current Lazio side. I think we better wait for the end of the season and judge his performance.

    Unfortunately no.
I am speechless, in particular with Zarate`s miss of the penalty which could have changed everything. Pathetic.
