Lazio vs Fiorentina: preview

Venue: Stadio Olimpico, Saturday 29.01.2011, 18:00 CET.

Based on what Lazio showed in the last couple of matches, it is difficult to predict their performance against Fiorentina, who are likewise struggling and one of the most inconsistent sides in Serie A so far this season.

Last season against Viola @ Olimpico, we were on course of clinching a win, a very important one at that time, before Fiorentina equalized in the extra time.

With respect to our possible formation against Fiorentina, a couple of things are certain: Rocchi and Matuzalem are still out with injuries. Zarate was suspended following a massive brawl with Bologna players after the match while Dias is also suspended but for picking up 2 yellow cards (1 red) in the same match. Considering that new comer Sculli is doubtful, this leaves us quite thin upfront.

In the middle of the park, I would like to see Gonzales start: he was quite good in all the recent matches he features. Why not play him and Ledesma in the middle and give Brocchi a match – off, in particular as the latter has been sub-par as of late. In defense, Lichsteiner is back after 1 match suspension while I expect Diakite to start instead of Dias and directly mark Gilardino.

I agree about Gonzales, he deserves to start. And Brocchi deserves a rest. I’d like to see Reja try using a more tradition two forwards up top, with Floccari and Kozac taking those spots. I think they could work well together.

We need a confidence bosting win big time.
Ledesma and Hernanes have been supbar the last few games and hopefully they can reverse their fortunes as well as for Lazio.

Hope to ssee some reinforcements come in by the deadline as well. It is easy to see, even playing in only one competition, that 23 roster players can quickly dwindle with injuries and suspensions.

    Forza Lazio, Non Mollare Mai!!

It is appears Gonzales will start after all but Brocchi will start as well, in what seems to be a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1.

Whatever we play, a change is needed and fresh blood (ie players who wish to prove something to the coach and fans)

Gonzales played well, gave spark to the right side. Best player was Kozak. A constant thorn in Fiorentina’s side all evening allowing Floccari to pick up many loose, turned over balls high up the pitch. Unfortunately after Floccari’s injury we lost a litle bit of the rythem established between the two big attackers. Sculli came on and although we were not the same, he did make a nice cross to find Kozak free at the back post for the 2nd goal.

Injuries really hurt us tonight. Hope Floccari and Diakite are able to make speedy recoveries as we have Milan mid week.

    Forza Lazio, Non Mollare Mai!!!
