We have waited for a long time for Lazio to sign a player of such high caliber.
Let me be clear, Mauro Zarate did indeed cost us more, but by all accounts Hernanes is a better player overall, a more complete and mature one.
If you a a passionate reader of calcio-mercato like I am, you know by now how difficult was to sign Hernanes, for the following reasons:
1. Sao Paolo did not want to hear for any other offer than their initial deman;
2. Player was not owned only by the club, but also by another firm called Traffic;
3. Player was initially not certain if he wanted to leave (later he changed his mind though).
When Lazio coach Edy Reja convinced Lotito and Tare that he was the player he was looking for, the latter had to embark on a long trip to Brazil and hold talks with all the parties involved in Hernanes sale. The deal was struck around 6th of August and became official only after Sao Paolo were knocked by Libertadores Cup.
Some info about the players:
Anderson Hernanes de Carvalho Viana Lima (born May 29, 1985)
Hernanes is a product of the Sao Paulo academy and has played for them since 2001. He was loaned out to Santo André for the 2006–07 season. In 2008, as a São Paulo player, Hernanes won the Prêmio Craque do Brasileirão’s best player award.
In January 2009, Hernanes was listed as the most promising football player in the world by the British newspaper, The Times
Hernanes plays in midfield; central midfield to be more accurate and is known to have an excellent vision of the game and lethal shots from outside the box.
